Tho Commissioner of Police (Mr. W. B. M'llveney) returned to Wellington to-day from the South Island. Mr. W. Lowric, American ConsulGoneral,.is at present in Auckland. He will return to Wellington on Thursday. News has been received in Wellington of the death- this morning in Blenheim of Mr. Wiliiam. Pollard, sheepfarmer, of the Delta,' Marlborough. Mr. Pollard was well known as a public-spirited man. He took a great interest in the progress of Marlborough, and presented a park to the city of Blenheim. He also took a keen interest in the racing club, and was chairman of the Marltorough Patriotic Society, and an active member of the Marlborough Acclimatisation Society.
