NEGOTIATIONS BREAK DOWN OVER WAGES
MINERS SUPPORTED BY WHOLE LABOUR MOVEMENT
STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED IN BRITAIN
Negotiations to settle the British coal crisis broke down finally over the question of wages, in spite of the efforts of the Prime Minister, Mr. Baldwin, and there is a general stoppage in the industry under the notices posted by the proprietors operating from Ist May. The King has. proclaimed a state of emergency.

The coal strike has begun,
The Trades Union Conference declared in favour of a general strike at midnight on Monday. The conference intends to make volunteer arrangements to feed the people. Following this decision, the King, who had arrived from Windsor and attended a meeting of the Privy Council, proclaimed that a state of emergency exists.
