"The duties of local bodies have eimplotely changed," said the chairman of the Manukau County Council, Mr. F. M. Waters, at a meeting of that body on Tuesday (reports the "Auckland Star"). lie considered that in view of the extraordinary growth of motor transport, the time had arrived when a traffic. control board should be srt up. A grave danger was constituted at the present time liy the indiscriminate and slipshod issue of motor driver./ licenses, and proof in that direction was tho number of accidents that occurred. There was no uniform way of dealing with speeding, nnd neither the Police Deportment nor the county councils had sufficient stall's to properly cope with it. It \vm decided to forward a remit on the subject for discussion at the next county councils' annual conference.
