RAILWAY OUTRAGE
BEAMS PLACED ON THE LINE
SMASHED BY GOODS ENGINE
SIGNAL WIBEB ALSO CUT,
(By Telegraph.—Fnn, AMociation.) PALMEBSTON N., This Day. . Anottier attempt at a railway derailment . similar to that of Bth March, when cattle-stop rails were placed across the metals at the Terrace End and Kelvin Grove road crossings, was perpetrated at a crossing two miles on the Feilding side of Bunnythorpe this morning. The engine of an early goods train which leaves Palmerston North at 3.30 a.m. for Marton crashed into some obstructions at the crossing about 4.30 a.m. The: effect was Himilar to that when the Limited express met the like trouble at Terrace End and Kelvin Grove, and there was again a fortunate escape from derailment. A "Standard" reporter who investigated the matter learned that six wooden cattle-stop beams had been laid across the track, and were smashed and scattered by the bogie-wheels of- the engine. The individual or individuals concerned did not stop at that, for it is stated that the signal wires at Bunnythope Station were also cut. The police were advised, and are investigating the matter to-day.
