A story is told in the Viennese papers about Jan. Padereweski. He' wu/Vt an hotel in Lucerne, Switzerland, last summer, and white sitting in the bar was approached by a man who said to him, "Excuse me for disturbing you, but my bar. pianist has become ill, and I see by the register* that you are » pianist. I wonder if you will be willing to help out for him. Paderewski assented for fifty francs.. After he had, played for ten minutes the manager came to him and told him the guests did not like his playing.
