NAPIER COMPETITIONS

NAPIEB, 2nd April. . The annual musical and elocutionary' competitions opened yesterday with record entries. Most of the events were won by Napier competitors, the only Wellington success in the early stages being that of Miss C.; Leach, who won" the humorous recital-for ladies.. Miss\ J. B. Dinnesoh, a Wellington competitor, was third in the character recital ■- under 16, which was won by Miss G. Dalton (Napier), with , Miss DoreeV Saunders (Palmerston- North) second.'; Mrs. F. Grimshaw (Palmersibn North) was second in'the Maori song, won.by Miss I. Thomson (Napier), and Miss Isabel Martin (Waipuknrau) was second to Miss Molly Doyle. (Napjer) iii the song in character.
