LAWN TENNIS

WELLINGTON TOURNAMENT

YESTERDAY'S RESULTS

PLAY. IN r IDEAL CONDITIONS. . ■--■■■ ¥

The Wellington Lawn.' Tennis Association's Easter hard court tournament commenced on the Miramar courts yesterday morning. Bright sunshine and an almost entire absence of wind combined to create ideal conditions, and excellent progress was made.. Fifteen courts were in 'use, and. altogether about 120 matches were, played. With the exception of L. France (Wellington), M. Lampe (Wanganui), C. E. Malfroy (Wellington), and Miss Arita Howe (Wellington)) there'are no outstanding players competing in the tourney, but, nevertheless, .a' great many close and exciting games were provided. . Miss Howe met with unexpected defeat at the hands of Mrs.-Heald. (Lyall. Bay), whose determination to win was augmented byher good use of Miss Howe's several mistakes. With: this exception, the- first-class, players mentioned above were never extended. The results follow:-—: ... CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS. ■MEN'S SINGLES.;.' First Round.—W; Cudahy beat G.
