SCORES AFFECTED BT HIGH WIND.
A' strong westerly wind rather Spoilt the scoring in the qualifying round of 30 holes for the Wellington Provincial Golf Championship, which commenced to-day at Heretaunga. The courHe, which has been in excellent order all the summer, was greatly improved by the late rains, but the greens were still fast, though very true, and the approaches were sticky. The entries were smaller than for several years, no doubt owing to the attractions of trips away offered by Manawatu and Nolaon, but there were entrants from Miramar, Masterton, Manawatu, Moraington, Hutt, and Ohristchurch Clubs, and the quality of the leading players ensures good golf in the later stages of tho contest. , . , The following are the leading scores for the first 18 holes: — A.
