The Rev. William Birch, rector of All Saints, West Gorton, Manchester, has declined an offer of £1000 a 'year made by a 'London firm of toymakers for his services. Mr. Birch served his apprenticeship as an engineer with Vickers, Sons, and Maxim, being ■engaged on 0.2 |<un and submarine construction. But he meanwhile studied hard, and later wont to the Glasgow University Theological College. Being very skilful'with' his hands, he iv his spare time has'made wonderful toys, and ii medical friend who saw his work offered to form a company and finance him. H's present stipend is £390.
