LODGE MEETINGS

The quarterly meeting of the Wellington United . Friendly Societies' Council . was held laat week, Bro. H. Finch, president, being in tho chair. There was a good attendance of delegates. In addition to other matters of interest to local branches, it was decided to arrange for an address on actuarial matters, and arrangements were put in train for holding a combined friendly societies' social function in May. Wellesley Juvenile Lodge No. 7, I 1.0.0.P., N.Z., held its regular meeting last week, Bro. T. G. M'Gregor, P.G., presiding. There was a good attendance of juvenile members, Bros. A. H. Meech, P.G., president, J. Nind, P.G., P.C.P., vice-president, T. Burns, P.G., secretary, and other members of the adult Management Committee also being present. Ritual practice was taken under the supervision of Bro.'F. J. Jones, P.G., G. Rep., and a sentencebuilding competition was conducted by Bro. P. Vinsen. Games and supper concluded the meeting; The fortnightly meeting of Esther Rebekah Lodge No. 30, 1.0.0. F., N.Z., Brooklyn, was held last Tuesday evening, Sister E. Cole, N.G., presiding. There was a good attendance, and an official visit was received from the N.G. (Sister Ansett), and officers of the Victori - Rebekah Lodge. One lady candidate was nominated. Wildey Lodge, No. 107, 1.0.0. F., N.Z., Island Bay, held its fortnightly meeting last Wednesday evening, Bro. E. Havill, N.G., presiding. An official visit was received from officers of Heretaunga Lodge. Two nominations for membership were received. The Lodge afterwards entertained members of Wellesley Juvenile Lodge. There was a large attendance of the lads, a number of officers and members of Rose of Wellington Rebekah Lodge also being present. The lads were given a generous supper, competitions during the evening resulting aa follows: Wheelbarrow race (Meech and Mackay), humorous story (Watkins), bun-eating (Tahiwi 1, Trendle 2), potato race (Meeeh 1, Christ6en 2), recitation (Christsen 1, Mackay 2), quoits (Walker 1, Christsen 2). The fortnightly meeting of the Maranui Lodge No. 124, 1.0.0. F., N.Z., Miramar, was held last Wednesday evening, Bro. W. G. Bennett, N.G., presiding. There was a good attendance. One maternity bonus was passed for payment, with statutory subsidy from district medical fund, and another similar claim lodged. Thirteen candidates for membership •were nominated, indicating a serious bid for the district membership shield. The meeting was concluded with the fourth degree. Southern Cross Lodge No. 24, 1.0.0. F., N.Z.; held its fortnightly meeting last Thursday evening, Bro. K. Tahiwi, N.G., presiding. Thero was a large attendance of members and visi,tors. In addition to general business, an invitation to a social dance from O-lciwi-iti Rebekah.'Lodge,'Eastbourne, was accepted. Five candidates were elected, and initiated in regular form, and three further candidates were nominated. The fortnightly meetiug of Victoria Eebekah Lodge No. 2, 1.0.0. F.,. N.Z., Newtown, was held last Thursday evening, Sister Ansett, . N.G., presiding. There was a large attendance, and a very pleasant evening was spent with singing, cards, and dancing.. •. / . The sixth local Eebekah (ladies ') Lodge of ''the Independent Order of Oddfellows of New Zealand will be instituted at the Miramar South School next Wednesday evening, by the grandmaster of the Order (Bro. D. Bay Cooper, Auckland), and officers will be installed by the Lady D.D.G.M. (Sister E. Maley, P.N.G.), and suite, indications being that the new lodge will have a very auspicious opening, and a strong initial membership. The Grandmaster, 1.0.0. F., N.Z. Bro. D. Ray' Cooper, Auckland), immediate Past Grandmaster (Bro. M. J. Hooper, Auckland), and other Grand Executive officers of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand, will be entertained at Wellington on Ist April by tho combined local lodges of the Order. A Grand Lodge Executive meeting is being held at Masterton during Easter, and. a number of local members will attend a special combined meeting of the Wairarapa 1.0.0. F. Lodges on Easter Saturday evening. Court Lady Glasgow held its quarterly summoned meeting in Eod's Building on 23rd inst., C.R. Sister O. Mercer presiding. There was a large attendance. Some very important business was dealt with. P.C.K. Bro. Russell, of Court Sir William Jervois, gave an interesting account of his visit to the sister lodge at Auckland. Arrangements for the annual social are well in hand. One candidate was initiated and two were proposed for admission. Business concluded, the lodge adjourned for karmony. ■
