PROSECUTOR'S PLEA FOR ACCUSED.

At the close of the evidence in the Matteotti murder trial, the Public Prosecutor, in a singular whitewashing speech, said that he refused 'to pour tears on the tomb of Matteotti, ovor whose grave, too many false tears had been shed already. It was not a political trial, but one in which five;- nfoi;tunates were anxiously awaiting their fates. They had fought bravelyin war and bore decorations for valour. The Prosecutor claimed that Dumini was guilty of unintentional death following on the culpable sequestration of Matteotti 's person, and that the other prisoners were accomplices in a minor degree.
