LLOYD GEORGE ATTACKS CHAMBERLAIN
REICHSTAG APPROVES GERMAN ACTION
CANADA AND BRITISH POLICY
:•■■■. ' " ' The aftermath of the failure of negotiations at Geneva on the admission of Germany to the League of Nations is *eeu in the proceedings in several Legislatures of countries affected. In .the British House of Commons, Mr. Lloyd George strongly criticised Sir Austen Chamberlain, but his motion to reduce the Foreign Office vote was lost by a large majority. -In Germany the Beichstag passed a resolution approving the aiefcion of the German delegates ■ at Geneva, and calling for a continuance of the Locarno policy. In the Canadian House of Commons the Labour Leader made .an Anti-Imperialist speech, calling for only a/limited liability" for Canada over British Foreign policy.
(Reuter's Telegram.) (United Pren Association.—Copyright.) (Eeceived 24th March, 11 a.m.) LONDON, 23rd March. Sir Austen Chamberlain, with a gte-n expression on entering a crowded and expectant House of Commons, did not relax in response to Ministerialist cheers. ' .". Mr. Lloyd George initiated the debate by moving a reduction in the Foreign Office vote to call attention to the proceedings at Geneva and the action of the British representative there. He regretted that Sir Austen Chamberlain had not seen fit to take the floor at first, as he did after the Locarno meeting, and explain how the Locarno policy was checked at Geneva. The speaker declared that the Loearno Powers were ■. responsible, for the Geneva failure.' 1 The peace of the world hung on the action which the House of Commons took and tjirected the Government, to,take in the future. The events at Geneva had undoubtedly antagonised the United' States to the League. Sweden, which took the right and courageous course at Geneva, represented public opinion, also in Britain; yet the Swedish .delegate,. Herr I Unden, was treated as a stubborn, irreconcilable pro-German, though he had done more to, save the League than any one man. , ,'■'.
