The following forecast was Issued at 9 ».m. to-day for the subsequent 24 hours:— Winds—Westerly, strong to gale, backing to southerly, northwards of Kawhia and East Cape; strong south-easterly thence, to Hokltika and Lyttelton; moderate to strong southerly winds elsewhere. Barometer—Rising, but fall again shortly in the North. Seas—Heavy between Castlepoint and Kaikoura and in Cook Strait; rough elsewhere. Tides—Poor in Cook Strait; good on all the eastern coast; moderate elsewhere. Warning signals for westerly gale at Cape Maria Van IJiemen and Tiritiri, and for southeasterly gales at Castlepoint, Cape Campbell, Stephen Island, and Farewell Spit are exhibited, ' ' Weather—Cold, cloudy, and unsettled, with further heavy rain in many parts of the Nqrth Island, aud the north-eastern districts of the South Island; cold and changeable elsewhere in the South Island, with scattered showers. 1).
