STEAMERS AFFECTED BY STORM

A heavy sea was running in Cook Strait'last night, and shipping received a buffeting. The Opua lef,t Wellington at 10.25 o 'clock last night for Nelson, but put into Worser Bay shortly before 2 o'clock this morninj for shelter. The big steamer Tairoa, from Lyttelton, was off. the Wellington Heads early this morning, but owing to the thickness, of the weather, remained outside the entrance until daylight. A good run was made by the Wahine, which arrived at Wellington from Lyttolton at 7 a.m. . The Anchor Company's ferry steamer Ngaio, however, was delayed by the heavy . seas. The ship left Nelson, at 7.30 last evening, and did.not arrive, at Wellington until 1 yk to-day, some six hours late. j.
