MORE ILL FEELING
TWISTING THE LION'S TAIL.
(Australian-New Zealand Cable Assn.) (Received 22nd March, 2 p.m.) WASHINGTON, 22nd March. The Senate this week is taking up the Italian debt settlement, and is expected to begin a' lengthy discussion on American foreign policy. Various Republican irreconcilables intimate that they will attempt to discuss League of Nations questions, and the attitude of European commentators upon Senator' Borah's recent resolution asking the Secretary of State, Mr. Kellogg, to inform the Senate what steps have been taken to negotiate the settlement of claims by American citizens against Britain and France, for the violation of the rights of neutrals between Ist August, 1914 and Ist April, 1917, having reference to the blockade. It is understood that Senator Borah will probably question the British attitude towards reports of his resolution cabled to London. The irreconcilables appear angered at the feeling of British newspapers, some of whom, are reported as having asked what Britain intends to do concerning many British claims pending against the United States as the result of the war.
