April 17—Ellesmere County T.C. Annual. April 17—Cambridge T.C. Annual. April 21—Ashburtoo T.C. Autumn. The Autumn Meeting of' the Wellington Trotting Club will be held at the Hutt Park Racecourse, .Petone; o:- Saturday. The club has receiveu record nominations, and-it only requires fine weather to make the meeting one of' the best in this centre. ,-. \ The High-class Trot' alone. should be worth a long journey to see, as some of the best straight-out trotters in the Dominion will dispute the fastest class trotting race yet competed for in this country. Judge Hancock has, been placed in pride of position on 96 yards behind, but his sterling performance in beating a class field of pacers in open company a few days ago entitles him to every second of his penalty. Escapade, on 72 yards behind, has shown herself a great mare—it is' only a few months since she was in maiden company, so anything may be expected of her. Rose Bingen, on the same mark, is a faultless trotter, that is improving with every start. Peterwah, imported from America as a two-year-old by the Gisborne owner, Mr. R. Fisken, has been somewhat ■ unlucky in running; but the track at the Hutt should suit him. Betty Moko will be making her first appearance away from home (Auckland), and as travelling often improves horses, she may be looked for in i the firing line on Saturday. Of those nqerer the limit, Nighborn has shown consistent form this season, as has John Mauritius; but Lazarus, on 12 yards behind,; looks to have the best of them. Blue Thorpe is an improving . trotter with three recent wins to. his credit, while iYoung Blake will enjoy, getting a clear run off the limit, arid is bound to find the Hutt track to his liking. The winner may |still lie among any others of the nineteen that comprise the field at present, and ion all appearances the Wellington Trotting Club will be rewarded for its enterprise. With;forty in the 3.38 class pacers' harness, race, thirty in the mile saddle, and twenty-six in the 4.52 two miles for pacers, there is.plenty of material for record fields to face the starter. ' , < There are twenty-five- in the principal race,. the -Armstrong Handicap, of two miles, limit 4.36; and this event can stand a.strong weeding out on acceptance day. Between- Onyx on the back mark and Prince Lyons on the limit a splendid field has been handicapped ■by \ Mr. Edwards, and in point of quality as well as numbers this event should excel the contests of past years. j Dreamalion is evidently now being sprinted. He won a mil? saddle event at New Brighton on Thursday in the fast time of 2.13 1-5; he must ibe considered well placed in the Recovery Handicap of one mile *nd a quarter on •' Saturday. Staffs of, workmen have -been busy at the Hutt'Park putting up the nev double face on the. totalisator .ana installing,a ne\y hot water service for the booths which it is hoped by many patrons will be in evidence on Saturday., Acceptances for Saturday's events close with the secretary, Mr.'R. W. Short, at his office, Petone, to-morrow (Wednesday)' evening at 8 o'clock. ' Judging by the, number of; inquiries for accommodation, received by 'the secretary the fields for Saturday's races will be on the large, side.; : ■ ! S. M.. August, who has always been well represented at local fixtures! in the past, has. nothing engaged. at thei approaching meeting;' but will probably Ibe on hand to ■ steer Zolock Palm and Fsrp.» in their engagements. r
