The Rangitikei -Racing Club's Meeting, which'opens to-morrow, should be a great success. The class of .horse engaged would not! discredit a metropolitan programme, and in point of fact very greatly inferior acceptances both in quality and quantity have , been' received in recent times by clubs of much greater size than the Kangitikei Racing Club. In one or two races the acceptors outnumbered the old safety limit, i but with i now a few >■ seratchings divisions should not be necessary except in the Trial Plate. •Proceedings will open with theOhakea Hack Hurdles, Koauau being top-weight ■with 12.4. .Mountain Ijell, penalised 101b for her Opunake success, should not find 10:13 prohibitive over a mile and a half course. Asleep, 10.1, is also a possibility. Frizzier finished third to Mountain L .11 at Opunake.' Mountain Bell, Frizzier, and Asleep may do best. , Eden Hall, who was unlucky at Opunake, Great Day from W. Dwyer's stable, who showed surprising pace at Wanganui, • Capitulation, and. Royal Land may not want for1 support in the Trial Plate. This race, even if it is divided, may bring about a surprise. Rational raced so well at the Opunake Meeting that he will not want for support to-morrow, but it has to be remembered that he is meeting a better'class field. Ngata, 8.13, should be almost right again, but Mandane, 8.9, may need just this race, and both should find six furlongs a. little too short. Fool's Paradise, 8.12, who ,is ;very well, won this race last year with 8.8, but the field was not as good clasi^ as that to be seen out to-morrow. Alario may be a little new yet." The promoted hack Epistle is a possibility. Of •■ the remainder the ■ only one •who appeals is Areheen, but he may not be improved by. the middle distances he was asked to race over at. Napier. Fool's Paradise, Epistle, and Rational may not want for support.. One or two smart hacks are in the Carnarvon Hack Handicap,., and with Royal Damon engaged backers of Horomea should get a good market. Whether that mare will beat Royal Damon,, however,, is doubtful.: Star Shell and Roburite hay, both shown pace in . their, races, but the two at the head of the handicap, Royal Damon and Horomea, appear to dominate the position, Ngata has a good horse's weight in the Kangitikei Cup, but his . owner, Mr. J. iJull,'has a weakness for this race, and itfwill. not be surprising to find Ngata showing up well. Royal Divorce may need the gallop, but Glenross ran two excellent races at.Wangauui, both over a mile and 110 yards. Novar, 8.5, has yet to run a bad race this year, and Martulla should be very fit now. The Lamb, 8.1, patieritiy ridden, is a possibility, and Opa is a very useful • galloper with a light weight. It i goes without saying that it is a very hard race, but Glenross, Novar, and Martulla may. not disgrace themselves. ■Cat Call, Bonhomme, .and.Rangi Sarto, gho ate allin ,the Pukenui Hack Welter figured in a bumping finish at Wauranui over a • similar -. distance, when Cai Gill won and Bonhomme and Rangi Sarto dr-ad-heated.for. second Of this three, Bonhomms should do best to-morrow. Sanctuary, 8.6, has only to rua up to her Danfor.ishe^'swg a- good third in that race to ■ Opa and Gauntlet, with Martulla and Kilbronsyth behind her., te.r Joy King's success at Napier Park £ith. 10.2, Commendation should not be worried with 10 5 in the Juvenile Handi||^y"prr^mUa&S T^ J Bht wei«hts» but the big son of Limond seems very many classes above A number of those, in .the Ngatiapa Hack Handicap are engaged earlier* m fhe d£r «d E h^ n^ alT n 18 ,re«rved for this of % p fi o u Argue J Bhould' ses the • rest ot Uie held a merty Hance. Licimuß and the Comedy King two-year-old, David Garrick, will represent Mr. C. £• *J8!"' a(i R'ccarton at Easter time. David Garrick wih be making his first public appearance in the Champagne Stakes. The remainder of Mr. Elgar's horses will be raced at Tauherenikau. •i j ' Lmcolnßnire Handicap will be decided to-morrow. When acceptances were taken on 3rd February, 24 horses dropped out, including the French horses Brumaire, Ptolemy 11., Aethelstan, Statheros, and Dalzara. Mr. A. K. Macomber, who carried off the autumn double with ForBeti and Masked Marvel, has left in Sun God 11. Lustucru, a five-year-old with the iandy weight of 8.1, was selected as the best of the French horses left in. He has been winning hurdle races in the South of France, so should be very fit. Zionist, owned.by H.H. Aga Khan, was top weight-with 9.1,ia French horse, Cora'm, bring next on the list with 8.12. in. all, thsre were 38 first acceptors. : ,The : Grand: National Steeplechase, the premier jumping, event of the. world, will be decided at Aintree on Friday. When first acceptances were taken only twelve cf the sixty entered ■were withdrawn, the mpst* noteworthy of them being a previous winner in Master Robert and a stable companion of Fly Mask, namely, West Countryman. Those left in include Double Chance, Old Tay Bridge, Fly Mask, Sprig, Silvp,. Dwarf iof the- Forest, and Jack Homer,. whp last March completed the course in this order, whilst others that failed to get round but can make another attempt are Ardeen, Ammonal, All White, Ballinode, Ben.Cruchan, Gardenrath, Keep Cool, Pencoed, Patsey V., and White Surrey. Silvo is top weight with 12.7, Gerald L.; has 12.2; Old Tay Bridge 12.2, Fly Mask 11.13, and last year's winner, Double Chance, 11.10. Southern horses do not bulk very large amongst the entries for the Avondale Meeting, and although the nominations are in every way satisfactory, it seems fairly obvious that the Wellington Meet-ing-will be the main attraction for the best horses after the Easter meetings have bten disposed of. Mask, The Thorn, Hipo, Sun Up, Gauntlet, Phoenix Park, Income, Rowley, White Fang, 'Killocra, Oration, .Willow Wai, Merry Jest, Crossfire, Glentruin. Motley, Deluge, and Lady Cavendish appear to be the select of the outside brigade, and these represent only a few stables. The last four name-, are All Aged Stakes candidates. >- Steel Bar has been sold, and will race in future on the West Coast of the South Island. v Theodolite, the two-year-old filly by Surveyor, from Miss Hazel, and the two-year-old :fiily by ' uryeyor from Bachelor's Girl vill be trained in future by W. Young at Trentham. . ' ■On Saturday morning at Riccarton Glentroiii was responsible for the best halfmile. ■ She hegan slowly, yet completed her task in 48 3-ssec. Count Cavour galloped : seven furlongs alone in lmin 38 S-5-sec. Other good gallops were: The Harp, three furlongs in 35 4-saec, mid Victory Bond three furlongs in 37sec. .'En Route is reported very sore, and may

require a long spell. This is unfortunate at the commencement of the jumping season. The general, entries for the C.J.C. Meeting taken Jajt Friday are a fairly reliable index as to what North Island stables will be . represented at Riccarton at Easter. Ali being well ,J. Jones will take Commendation, Mime, and Many Colours; T. Lloyd, 'Piuthair and Clandhu; S. Reid, Minotus, ■ Spode, Note, and perhaps Grand Knight; H. L. Russell, Siaosi, Mount Marta, and Berinthia; T. F. Quinlivan, Royal Diovrce; and Fool'l Paradise; P. Hazleman, Licinius and David Garrick; E. Yuille, Kilbronsyth; S. Waddell, Fathe# O'Flynn arid perhaps Gold Light; T. Lind, Civility. ... Although it has been reported in the South that Glentriiin is sure to go to Ellerslie and Avondale to race, she was paid upl for-. the »C.J.G. Great Easter Handicap and nominated for the open sprint event on the, second day at Riccarton. She is in at Ellerslie, and was also paid up for in the Avondale All Aged Stakes on Friday'night. Apparently her connections are in some doubt themselves. The three-year-old filly Valicare, who defeated Windbag, Pantheon,' and Te Monat nui in the Kawson Stakes on Saturday at Rosehill, is veil performed and has now won five races on end in New South Wales.*: The first three were. six furlong races, the Farm Stakes at Warwick Farm in September with 7.10, the Flying Handicap at Randwick on Boxing Day with 7.9, and the Carrington Stakes at Randwick with 7.4 on 30th December, the field being first-class and the time lmin ll%sec. On 26th January Valicare, with 8.5, won the Adrian Knox Stakes at Randwick, running the mile in lmin 38sec. The RawsoA Stakes, which Valicare won on Saturday, is a weight-for-age event, with allowances only for horses who have not won a handicap of 100 soys, so that all the good horses would be meeting one another on weight-for-age • terms. • Valicare, who has 8.9 in the Doncaster Handicap, was one of "Pilot's" first selections. How much merit there was in her win on Saturday is hard to judge, for she would be well seasoned,.with her racing since Christmas against Windbag's spell. For all that, judging by the winning margin of eight lengths, she won easily. Te Monanui s fourth must go down as a satisfactory effort. Valicare is by that successful sire Valais from Courante. . Birkenella is, back at Ellerslie in W. Garrett's .charge.i ' Cawnpore is, working well at Ellerslie and many ue. selecting him for the A.K.O. Easter 'Handicap.; . F. Tilley r f has .booked -accommodation at Ellerslie for Tukia, Limited, and .Mandane, and R.. S. Bagbyfor two horses. It thus looks as if Killocra is. to contest the A.R.C.- Easter Handicap. Automne, Automaton, and Threadneedle are already •at Ellerslie in readiness . tor the.'Easter 'Meeting. _ It is stated that S. Henderson will ride Llewellyn in his. engagements through the coming jumping season. Llewellyn is a regular attendant at Ellerslie and is making steady progress in his preparation. Probably1 in view of the Riverton Meeting Pamplona and Avispado were schooled on ' Saturday at Wingatui over four fences in company. Both shaped well, and Avispado gave an improved display on what he showed', when schooled a couple o£-weeks ago.' .
