The speaker at the luncheon of the Wellington Kotary Club to-day was Dr. M. T. MacEachern, M.D., D.Sc.,- Associate Director of the American College of Surgeons. Other guests included the Minister of Health (the. Hon. J. A. Young) and many medical men of tho city. . . In introducing the guests, the president (Dr. W. E. Herbert) assured tho Minister of. Health that ho would havo the most hearty support and co-opera-tion of all Eotary clubs in any movement for the improvement of the health of the people. If he understood their visitors' message correctly, it was that health is and- should be—in fact, must be —a co-operative enterprise. We had all to get behind the great health movement—a movement which could bring more happinoss to the community than any other. The speaker alluded to the 1-.arvellous progress in efficiency made by the Medical Department during-the war. For tho first time in the history bullets killed more than disease. . That was a wonderful triumph. The speaker then alluded to the important mission o which Dr. MacEitchern is now engaged. . ■ • Dr. MacEaehenij after thanking, the members for their hearty reception, paid a glowing tribute1 o the forty-two years of service given'by Mr. C. M. Luke as a member of the Hospital Board. Reference was 'also made to the valuable work dono by Eotary in many centres, and as an instance he mentioned the work of the Kotary Club in Vancouver in assisting hospital and other activities. Dr. MacEachern spoke of the wonderful advance made by medical science in conquering disease. It had greatly lengthened the average length of human life. He showed what had beoji accomplished by medical research in recent years. Much, fyqweyer, still remained to bo done. The speak-1 or urged the importance of a periodical | examination of evoryono by the family doctor with the view of detecting and curing disease at its earliest stage. He alluded to the efficiency of tho various departments of the Wellington Hospital, and outlined what a 'thoroughly high-grade hospital should bo.
