LONDON, 10th February. ) The Board of Trade returns for January are:—lmports, £118,000,000; exports, £60,000,000; re-exports, £12,----000,000, compared with £129,000,000 of imports and £69,130,000 of exports for January, 1925. The rush of imports of silk goods last year and the impending imposition of a new tax, as announced in the Budget, was apparently the reason for the increase.

In reply to Sir-Frederick Wise's question in the House of Commons as to whether such action had been taken as would henceforth circumvent the rush of imports, Mr. Balfour, in reply, said that when the time came it would be found that the Government had not overlooked 'the important matter of dumping. . \
