KING'S THEATRE.

This evening marks the initial presentation in New Zealand of the*Metro-Gold-Wyn production, "The Sporting Venus," a comedy-drama, which is stated to have experienced phenomenal success wherever shown, in other countries. A short season of one week only is the extent of the Wellington run, owing, to heavy booking demands fr/Dm other centres of New Zealand. Gerald Beaumont, tho screen's most famous writer of romances, has made this his masterpiece. Like many of- his other stories, "The Sporting Venus" ha» been filmed, in, this instance witty, Marshall Neilan handling the megaphone. For the purpose, Mr. Neilan took a complete production unit to Europe and scenes were enacted- at Biarritz, Paris, London, and Scotland. This has invested the production with the full charm of authenticity, as well as adding a feature of great interest. It is a tale of a highspirited girl of the British artistocracy, her love for, a' commoner, and, the attempts of an impecunious Continental Prince to marry her for her wealth. Much humour ha* been injected int6 tho wealth of drama comprising the plot. The three prrociptj roles are taken by Blanche.Sweet, Ronald Colraan, and Lew Cody. A well-selected supporting programme it a noteworthy feature, while a ■"eeially arranged musical setting will be . ?ndered in a manner befitting the excellence of the principal attraction.' Box plans are available at The Bristol until 5.30 daily, and after at theatre^
