ASHORE ON OCEAN ISLAND

RUMOURED BTRANDING OF CARGO

STEAMER OOMA.

AUCKLAND, 10th Febrnary. Information has been. received. in Auckland that the cargo steamer Ooma is ashore at Ocean Island. As far as is at present known the vessel was not loaded at her time of stranding. No further details are available.

The Ooma is a steel steamer of 3991 tons. She waa built at Stockton in 1905 by Craig, Taylor and Company, and is at present under the flag of W.. Crosby and Company. The Ooma is not a stranger to Auckland, having arrived here with a load of phosphate during the latter half of last year. She has been engaged in the Nauru Island and Ocean Island phosphate trade for a number of months, and has made several voyages to other New Zealand ports. She is also well known in Australian waters.
