The Christmas tree, which has become an almost universal symbol, and is by most persons supposed to have originated in Germany, had its origin in Egypt at a period long before the' Christian Era. The palm tree is known to put forth a branch, every month, and a spray of this tree, -with twelve shoots on it, was used in Egypt at the time of the winter bols~ tJce T .as=a^BjmboLo£ ihesrear completed.
