« —_ ■ PROMOTIONS & TRANSFERS CHANGE IN ADMINISTRATION A number of police changes in consequence of the retirement of Superintendent M'Kinnon, of Christchurch, and for general Departmental reasons were announced to-day by Commissioner W. B. M'llveney. Inspector E. Eales, of Auckland, is promoted to superintendent in charge of the Christchurch district. Inspector J. M'llveney is transferred , from Wanganui to Auckland to replace Inspector Eales. He will take immediate control of Auckland City and suburbs under the direction of the Superintendent of Police there. Inspector S. Till is transferred from Christchurch to charge of the Wanganui police district. , Inspector A. Cameron is transferred from Gisborne to Christchurch, and will take immediate control of the city and suburbs, under the direction of the superintendent there. Inspector W. Eccles is transferred from Greymouth to charge of the Gisborne district, for health reasons. Inspector D. C. Fraser is transferred from Napier to charge of the Greymouth police district. Inspector D. J. Cummings is transferred from Wellington to charge of the Napier police district. Sub-Inspector S. Bawle, of Auckland, is promoted to the rank of inspector, and transferred to Wellington, where he will take up immediate control of the city and suburbs, under the direction of the superintendent. Senior-Sergeant F. Lewin, of Christchurch, is promoted to the rank of subinspector, and transferred to Auckland. Senior-Sergeant H. Martin, of Mount Cook, Wellington, is transferred to the Central Station, Christchureh. Sergeant C. H. Lennon, of Lawrence, is promoted to the rank of senior-ser-geant, and transferred to charge of Mount Cook Station, Wellington. Constable G. W. Gow, of Wellington, is promoted to the rank of sergeant. Detective John Walsh, 'of Wellington, is transferred to Wanganui, in charge of the detective office there. Detective H. J. LeSeur is transferred from Timaru to InvercargilL Acting-Detective W. B. Cooper has been appointed detective, and remains at Wellington. Acting-Detective B. J. Walker is ap-< pointed detective and transferred to Timaru. Constable J. Gracey takes up clerical duties in place of Sergeant Gow, at Wellington. ! "It will be observed," said pommissioner M'llveney, ",that the divisional authority exercised for some time past by the superintendent will now cease, a3 the tentative arrangement is no longer necessary. In order that the experience gained in the detective branch, as well as in the .uniform branch of the service, should be available to the public to the fullest extent, .the inspectors at Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch %aye been selected on account of the experience they have of both branches of % the service. Their knowledge of detective work will be of great benefit in the centres of population where the inspectors have immediate control of the detective branch. The' duties of superintendents, inspectors, sub-inspectors, and senior-sergeants will in futnre be carried out in strict accord with the regulations made under the Police Force Act;" ■■■■■
