DARING ROBBERY AT TAUPO

A daring robbery was committed at Taupo early on Sunday morning, whea over £100 in notes and several small articles of jewellery were removed from the rooms of visitors, staying at The Terraces Hotel. It was not until after daylight that anything was known to be amiss. On rising, Mr. George H. Wilson, of Auckland, discovered that he had lost £20 in notes, some keys, and a small handbag. A sum of £75, made up mostly of five and ten pound notes, was missing from the room of Mr. John , Milne, of Auckland, and £10 in notes from the room occupied by an English visitor, Mr. 0. J. H. Barr. Mr. Ban also lost several English £1 note* and a watch. A further sum of £19 in notes was' missing from the room of another guest, Mr. Edward Streetfleld, Mrs. Milne was aroused about 2.40 *.m. by a slight noise, but thinking it was the night porter in the adjacent corridor she thought no more, of the matter until an alarm was given next morning. Later it was found that six or seven gallons of petrol . had been removed from a car belonging to Mr. W. A. Thompson, of Botorua. A heavy south-westerly gale, with! heavy rain, facilitated the robbera* «p» erations. Owing to the heavy rain no tracks of feet or wheels could be discovered, but from circumstance* it seems that the robbery must have bee* the work of one or more men with s> motor-car.'
