SALE OF LOTTERY TICKETS

; CHRISTCHURCH, 9th February. Nine local men who had sold tickets in an illegal lottery on the New Zealand Cup, for which the promoter was fined £100 in Sydney in October, were convicted by the Magistrate to-day, and ordered to pay costs. Defendants pleaded guilty, stating that they did not know .they were committing an offence in selling the tickets. Detective Young Baid the promoter ■had evidently consulted a directory and posted the books of tickets at random.
