LAWN TENNIS
WELLINGTON 'MANAGEMENT
COMMITTEE.
It was decided at yesterday's meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association/ that the programme for the Easter hard court tournament should be the same.as for the provincial tournament except that the Wellington Plate should be omitted. If the entries in the men's and ladies handicap singles number more than 60, the events will each be divided into A and B grades. The following players have declared themselves available to play for Wellington against Wanganui on Saturday: Misses M. Tracy, M. North, and M. East. No reply had up to that time been received from Miss E. Travers. The men who stated they were available were Dr. E. B. W. Smyth, E. D. Andrews, L. France, N. B. C. Wilaon, B. H. Donovan, and C. E. Malfroy. A letter was received from the Wanganui Association expressing surprise that the matches are to be played on hard conrts, as they had expected to play on grass courts. They are to be written to, and regret is to be expressed that it is impossible to have the matches played on grass courts. The resignation of Mr. B. B. T. Young, w,ho is shortly to leave for England to continue his studies at Cambridge University, was received with great regret. The committee wished him all success in his future studies. Mr. W. H. Stainton was appointed to the vacancy on the committee as the representative of the Schools' Association.
The committee considered that Smyth and Malfroy^ are obviously right out of their: true positions on the association's ladder, and requested E. B. W. Smyth to play N. R. C. Wilson and C. E. Malfroy to play B. H. Donovan.
