BRITISHERS AT HATAITAI

LOCAL OLUBS SECURE A WIN.

Alleged to carry a supply of "bottled sunshine," the British bowlers ware certainly favoured with fine weather when they played at Hataitai green yesterday afternoon against rinks from the Hataitai, Lyall Bay, Seatoun, and Newtown Clubs. There was a large attendance. The local clubs won by 166 points to 156.

The president of the Hataitai Club, Mr. H. Moston, who was supported by the presidents of the other clubs, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors, who, he said, had brought with them a spirit of comradeship and good sportsmanship and renewed in a most pleasant way the ties that bound thi; Dominion to the Homeland. He hoped that they would carry back pleasant memories of the tour.

Mr. George Wright (captain of the British team) said that it was onco more his pleasant duty to respond to a welcome from a New Zealand club, and all their good wishes and kindly hospitality he wished on behalf of his team-to acknowledge in the highest degree. When they went back they would have the happiest recollections of Australia and New Zealand and the people they had met in both countries, and he hoped that at some time in the future they would have the opportunity of meeting many of their new friends in the Old Country, where they would be made welcome on any green. (Applause.) Mr. Wright said he believed that bowls vas the most sociable game in. the woTld. It was imbued with such a spirit of friendliness that it was bound to prosper, and it was that spirit which helped everyone. in their business. (Applause.) They had the greatest appreciation for what had been done for them everywhere, an I be gave the assurance that they would leave New Zealand with regret but with the hope of meeting many of them- on some future tour of the Okl Country, when they would have the opportunity of repaying in some measure the great hospitality vouchsafed them on all hands.
