SEVERAL BUSINESS PLACES
DESTEOYED.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) .' ' ' WAIROA, This Day. ' Before 4 o'clock this morning Wairoa again experienced, a disastrous Ire, which broke out in the business portion of the Marine parade, near the traffic bridge, completely destroying Storey's Auction Mart, and spreading It in both directions along the parade until the following premises went up in imoke:—
M. Stairman's (bootmaker). Howell's (confectioner). Bissenden and Co. 's (butchers). .Noble and Co.'s (saddlers). JR. Deighton's (hairdresser). Wairoa Electric Power Board's ihowroom. E. Balfour's (cycle importer). Practically nothing was saved. ' The fire was stopped 1 before reaching Pothan's County Garage with difficulty by the strenuous efforts of a ■willing band of helpers, while brick walls *nd a right-of-way fortunately prevented the fire spreading further along the Parade in the opposite direction. Storey's Mart building belonged to the late P. Wilson's estate, and Stairxnand'a shop to D. Wilson. The rest of the premises were owned by J. Mayo. i The loss is considerably above the insurances, which are not available. The fire, occurred practically on the anniversary of last year's big blase, which resulted in over a dozen business premises being wiped out. • . The boTough water supply- is nearly completed, but is not yet available. A Fire Board was recently formed, but no fire-fighting equipment has been provided. The spectators were helpless, and their efforts were confined to a small bucket brigade. The origin of the fire is unknown.
