PETROL TAX WANTED
BY TAURANGA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Advice was received from the Tauranga County Council at the monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council today'that it had passed the following resolution: "That with a view to raising sufficient funds to pay the whole cost of maintenance of main highways the Government be asked to institute a petrol tax^ making suitable exemptions for dairying and other industries."
The assistance of the Hutt County Council was enlisted, and it was hoped that the matter would be taken up whole-heartedly.
On the motion of Councillor Blakeley, it was agreed that the letter be replied- to and that the council express its opinion in favour of the system of taxation as suggested.
