GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE

The forty-sixth annual picnic of the Government Printing Office staff was held at Maidatone Park on Friday, about 650 members and their friends and over 200 children participating in a most enjoyable day's outing. The Government Printer (Mr. W. A. G. Skinner) having left „ for Australia on business, Mrs. Skinner graciously attended, and presented the prizes. Amongst others present were Mr. G. 11. Loney (the superintending overseer), Mr. King (chief engineer), and the overseers of the various departments. The Minister in charge the Hon. G. J. Anderson) being away, from Wellington, wrote wishing the staff a successful outing, as also did the Public Service Commissioner (Mr. P. Verehaffelt). Mr. H. Wimsett T Was chairman of committee, Mr, E. Wells honorary secretary, and in association with Mr. W. Scatchard as sports secretary, a very interesting sports , programme was put through, and thoroughly enjoyed. The tug of war was won by the Litho Department, and the other prize-winners were:—Quoits, Messrs. Brownlie and Little; Office Boys' Handicap, Messrs. Lawton, Ridler, and .Houchen; Government Print Handiwp, Messrs. Wilson, Spence, and Carter; I Married Ladies' Race, Mrs. Orr and Mrs. Douglas; Three-legged Race, Mrs. Orr and Mr. Macauly; Sack Race, Mr. Tidman 1, Mr. Minifie 2; Office-donors' Race, Mr. Fleming 1, Mr. Goff 2, Mr. Hampton 3; Balloon Race, first gentleman Mr. Macauly, first lady Miss Sales; I Veterans' Race, Mr. Hampton 1, Mr. Craig 2; Office Ladies' Race, Miss M'Ghk 1, Miss Russell 2, Miss Cobhan 3. Apple-bobbing, Mr. Lawton 1, Mr. Boyle 2, Mr. Orr 3. Ladies' Egg and Spoon Race, Miss Ivar 1, Miss Sales 2; Medley Race, Mr. Spence 1, Mr. Boyle 2, Mr. Mackie 3. The elopement race was won by Mr. Warner and Miss Palmer, and brought the sports to a close.' Mr. Loney, superintending overseer, and Mr. Wimsett both spoke briefly, and a successful outing was brought to a close aft*er three cheers were given for Mrs. Skinner.
