BRIGHTER TONE

TO-DAY'S WOOL PRICES

KEEN BUYERS AT ADVANCE

AMEBICA TAKES SHOWY

LINES,

The third wool sales of the Wellington series began at the Town Hall last evening, and continued this afternoon. Prices were generally superior to those current at the last December sale. The benches were fully occupied, and all markets were fully represented. Competition was particularly keen, especially between buyers for Bradford and tho Continent. France was a heavy and feverish buyer of lambs' wool. America was a strong buyer of tho showy, super-fine crossbred wools, the top price paid being 17d per lb, but these wools generally averaged Id to lid per pound above the rates they realised at the December sales. Bradford, however, was the mainstay of the sale. Tho wool was evidently in strong Tequest, and the price was considered reasonable, with the result that Yorkshire lifted a heavy proportion of the offering. Growers appear to take a broader view of the market, with the result that probably over 90 per cent, of the aggregated catalogues will hava been disposed of. As compared with last Wellington sales, the superfine crossbred wools sold to-day for Id and over per pound more than they brought last December. Average crossbreds were about Jd per pound better. Pieces and bellies sold at about the same as they realised in December, when they did not make Jd to Jd per pound more.

The sale may be considered as very satisfactory all round, giving the grower a good, if not princely, return, and meeting the buyers' ideas of the value of the raw material. RANGE OF PRICES The official range of prices is as follows:—
