SUBURBS WITHOUT WATER
The suburbs of Miramar and Seafcoun, containing a., populatjpu of over 4000 were totally deprived of fresh water onThursday. The only explanation the Mayor had to give was that the Gas Company had taken it all! Judging by the privations suffered by residents of these suburbs, the company left no heel-taps. Serious as the personal inconvenience may have been, grave as were the risks run to public health by putting all sanitary arrangements out of order, there 5s still the fire, aspect of the inci-| dent that is justifiably regarded as alarming. The weather has been wtttt|u*Jjy- feet, »veryt4ifi«- is y.*ty
dry in the suburbs, and yet for many hours there was not a drop ot' water in the Miramar hydrants available in case of fire. Electors will be lacking in duty to themselves if they do not demand from the Council a definite assurance that there shall be no more deprivation of this populous district for a day at a time of all fresh water. It has occurred before, and may occur again, unless the Council deals firmly with the matter, and straight away.
