NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS.

WANGANUI, 15th January.

The West Coast is sending two teams to the New Zealand swimming championships at Napier. The Wanganui Centre will bo represented by the following:— -;

N. Dowsctt (100 yards, 220 yards, 440 yards) men's free style; W. Adams (150 yards), men's backstroke; F. Boulton (200 yards), breaststroke; P. M.athews and'E. Byelands, intermediate free style; C. Thrush, boys' intermediate breaststroke; J. Whytman, intermediate girls' free style and breaststroke; E. Anderson, intermediate girls' breaststroke; T. Cade, junior boys' free style; G. Carvell, junior boys' breaststroke; A. Svensoi!, junior girls' free style.

The Tavauaki team will comprise the following: I' 1. W. Grant (220 yards and 440 yards); H. 8. West-cm (880 yards and one mile); Miss Bessie Mayton, intermediate girls; B. D. Rawson and W. Penman, intermediate boys. Penman will compete in the intermediate diving championship and liawsou in the intermediate breaststroke championships.

In the Nelson life-saving competition Taranaki will be represented by E. Ho well (captain), J. Thomas, W. Penman, B. D. Bawsou, W. Tooruey, K. Tewill, and T. Berge.

A good trial 1 of strength between Wanganui's two crack teams, Gonville and Central, took place this evening, when the Thames Shield (four men aside over 25 yards each) and the Tingey Cup Flying Squadron (ten men aside over 50 yards each) were contested. The Central Club, being the holders, were challenged by Gonville, from which club practically all the champion aspirants have been selected. Central Clubj however, proved their superiority in both instances, the 100 yards race being won in 51sec and the 50 yards in 4min 59sec, or a shade over 29sec per man. Central won the big race by a full length of the pool of 25 yards.
