The finals and semi-finals were reached in the New Zealand tennis championships to-day. The weather was very hot, with a rising nor'-west-er, which threatened to be enervating and to interfere with play. The first match finished was the girls''junior final, in which Miss Dulcio Nicholls, the holder for two years, beat Margaret Gibson, of Timaru. The Auckland girl lost her lead at 4-3 in the firjt set, but by court-craft and drawing her opponent in and but, managed to win the first sei by a narrow margin. Then she settled down and won 6-0. Malfroy won the boys' championship easily enough, but Lucas fought hard, and took the secor T set. It was extraordinarily good tennis, and showed the value of the Wellington coaching system. Eesults:- — Girls' Sin *les. Final.—Dulcie Nicholls beat Margaret Gibson; 6-5, 6-0. Boys' Singles. Final. —Malfroy beat Lucas, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. j Ladies' Singles.
