At r one stage of his career, while in Canterbury, Mr.'Crewes aspir^.l for political honouts,. contesting, against Sir Julius Vogel. - Mrs.' Crowes predeceased her husband twelve years ago, and the surviving family consists of ;jne daughter and three sons —Mrs. Hardie, wife of the Rev. A. Hardie, of Paterangi, Waikato'; Mr. H. J. Crewes, _ a member of the linotype staff of the "Evening Post" ; Mr. Fred. -Crewis, of Chriatchurch; and Mr. William E. Crewes, also of Chrißtchurch> The funeral took place at Karori this afternoon. , ' '
