THE KARITANE FOND

£13,000 ON THE LISTS

SOME NOTABLE CONTRIBUTIONS

The Karitane Hospital Appeal Committee, which some, months ago set out to collect £23,000 to provide in Wellington a Karitane Hospital for tho Wellington Health District, has issued an official liat^of the contributions, both paid and promised, to date. The grand total is set down as £12,----877 0s 6d. There are also some.further items, of which the amount is not known, including { the returns from the Movie Ball and the performance of "The Fire Prince," organised by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Russell, which will bring the total to over £13,000, apart from the current Boy Scouts' effort, which aims at raising £5000 by the sale of bonds.

A number of the larger early contributions have already been publicly acknowledged. These included the Rotary Club's promise of £2000, £1000 from the Colonial Motor, Company, and £1000 from the T. G. Maeaithy Trust. Since then the following notable amounts have been added to the list:— £ Mrs. Macarthy Reid 100.0 New Zealand Government .... 1000 Wright, Stephenson, Ltd 250 Levin and Co., Ltd 150 Mr. F. W. Manton, Sir Truby King, £105 each; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hall,. Mr. George Shirtclifiie, Mrs. Shirtcliffe, Vacuum Oil Co., Ltd., British Imperial Oil Co.. Ltd., W. D. and H. O. Wills, Provincial Council, Mr. Eric Riddiford, Murphy Bros., and Fletcher Bros., £100 each. It will be recalled that at the outset of the movement Sir Truby King presented a site for the hospital. This land has been valued fpr- the committee at £1000, and appears in the list as a contribution of that value.

In the following list, those names after which (p) appears are credited with donations which have not yet been paid to the committee; all the other amounts have been paid.
