j Undoubtedly a red-letter tiny for cyclists in Australia will be the big Austral wheel race carnival commencing on 21st November, and conducted by Melbourne Carnivals Pt.v., Ltd.,.on the motordrome which is do.- . scribed by visiting cyclists to be the finest cycle track in the world, and capable of holding (SO riders ir. one race.- Tho prize money for this ov-nt will bo £1000, set out as follow*:-----1st £700, 2nd £200, 3rd £100, while the balance of £500 will be nit up for motor-pace race:-., scratch run.-?, and consolation handicaps. Even wlmn a rider is run out of the Jjij; Austral he will still have more money to compete for than has over boc.n given in Australia during the last fifteen years. This is a bold move on the part of tho company, and is easily thu largest athletic, carnival ever attempted in the Southern Hemisphere. Tim e-.'in-pany held last season's Aiisfrnl very lah 1, and, quito contrary to expectations, it; was a success boi-ii from a racing and financial point.
