WELLINGTON R.C. SPRING

The following arc the descriptions of the races decided after "The Post" went to press:—

WELLINGTON HANDICAP,

Rapine wound up a good favourite, with Te Monanui and Kilfairc ivoll snpportcd. Merry Day returned a dividend of nearly two figures, white backers of Shining Armour received » good return. ■.Kilfairn led past tjio • stands from Shining Armour,. Royal "Divorce, Imperial Spark, Phoenix Park, and Carpontier. Royal Divorce led into the back straight from Shining Armour, Kilfairc, Phoenix Park, Imperial Spark, and Megan, with Rapine, Merry Day, and Kalakaua last. At the five-furlong post Imperial Spark and Megan wore throe lengths clear of Kilfaire, with Royal Divorce, Phoenix Park, Shining Armour, To Kara, Rapine, and To Monanui following in that order. At the turn Kilfaire had headed Megan, and Imperial Spark had retired, with Te Kara, Tc Monanui, Rapine, Shining Armour, and Merry J)ay most prominent of the others. There was a" scrimmage at the false rail, where Kilfaire hung out and stopped Te Kara, Shining Armour going into the lead. Merry Da.y then dashed up, and, going on, won easily by three lengths. Shining Armour defeated Kilfaire "by a head for second, with Te Monanui a close fourth, and then came Tc Kara, Rapine, Phoenix Park, and Megan. "W ELL KS L !■: V ST A X US. Commendation was backed down to decided odds-on, backers of Helen receiving a, much better return. Lysander, Limited, Kilperoii, and Commendation began host, and Ltciil Glad and Helen were showing up with them U3 they swept on to tho course proper. Wlica in line

SHORTS HANDICAP,

Inferno was a slightly better fav-' ourito than Ilka, with good support for Motley and Fool's Paradise, Mimetic being at over double figures. Ilka, Oration, Licinins, and Shirley began best, and they were still prominent as the. field swept on to the course proper, with Mimetic' and Fool's Paradise handy. Mimetic did best on the outside in tho run to the post, and won well by a length from Ladyfingers, who finished fast. Suggestion was half a length away third, and then came Lucius, Fool's Paradise, Ilka, Inferno, and Oration. ' i OCTOBER HANDICAP. Cocoanut .was favourite in a good betting race, backers of Birthmark receiving over double figures, while those of the favourite showed a small profit.
