CONTROL VIEWED WITH CONCERN.
Messrs. Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd. Chrlstcluiveh. in their annual review, state
IWe view with some eiiaeern tho tendency to have 'control boards" for all our produce as the remedy that will ensure high prices, because, unless it country has the monopoly of miy products, it is not in :i position to regulate prices, and oven with a monopoly there could be a price limit beyond which the demand is much restricted. Partial control to ensure regular shipments and obtain a reduction of expenses through co-operative means of transport is beneficial, hut it, is considered that it" an attempt to Ax artificial prices is made, anil all sales go through one channel, as is suggested for dairy produce, it will soon be found th.it there is v combination of buyers who, unless they cau huy at their own figure, will boycott New Zealand supplies in favour of similar produce from other countries when available. At a time when we are endeavouring to draw the bonds of Empire closer this would be suicidal."
