"UP THE LADDER."

By a strange turn. of. circumstance, the first motion picture to make practical use of the televisionphone, an instrument which scientists all over the world are endeavouring to perfect and which will, make it possible for one _to actually see to whom one is conversing over the telephone, is "Up the Ladder," a Universal super-feature, which comes to the De Luxe Theatre to-morrow. It is adapted from the stage success by Owen Davis, and vividly portrays the idea that men, after seeing their ambition realised, often forget and scorn the rungs of the ladder upon which they have climbed to success. As a detector of falsehoods the televisionphone is said to outclass the famoufi lie detector at pre--sent in use in many of the Police Courts of America, in that it is unerringly accurate. In this Virginia Valli's latest and greatest vehicle, she plays the part of the inventor's wife, and shows how a woman can assist a husband to reach fame, and then be forgotten in the end. The cajst includes George Fawcettj For> rest Stanley, and Holmes Herbert. This picture is said to be of an interesting nature, besides being most unique. A big supporting programme has been arranged, and also a special musical programme. A matinee \will be held on Saturday, at 2.30. The box plans are open at The Bristol, Aitken's Book Arcade, or ring the theatre.
