IMPROVEMENT ANNOUNCED

MEN RETURNING TO SHIPS

STATE SHIPS BEING RE-COMMm

SIONED.

(UNITfID PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.)

(Received 29th August, 10.30 a.m.)

SYDNEY, This Day.

The outlook for an early settlement of the strike continues to improve. The eteamer Norfolk, manned by a complete white crew, has left Fremantle for the United Kingdom. The crew of the Somerset, at Townsville, ha* not so far come out.

In Sydney more men are returning to their ships, but the shipping agente are maintaining silence concerning this development, in order that their exact strength may not be ascertained. On some vessels the complement is being built up slowly, and during the next few days, it is expected, some of the vessels ■will sail.

Owing to the hold-up of British ships, the Australian Commonwealth Line has decided to re-commission the cargo steamer Cooee immediately to serve the Sydney wool ealee, which commence on Monday. If the strike continues into next week it is likely that the Delungra will also be commissioned. The Cooee will provide employment for an Australian crew of seventy, and the Delungra will take about forty-five.
