Nominations for the 1927 Derby of the N.Z. Metropolitan Trotting Club are due next Tuesday. A payment for this year's Derby, to be run in November, is due at the same time.
The Wellington .Trotting Club has framed the programme for its Spring Meeting on 3rd and 7th October. The principal race the first day is the Bollard Memorial Handicap, of 550 soys, 4.38 class, and on the second day for the Spring Handicap the conditions are the same and the stake 500 boys. In all, 3500 soys will be distributed in stakes during the two days. At the annual meeting of the Waikato Trotting Club the report showed that tho revenue for the past season exceeded the expenditure by £748 11s 4d.
The Government's share in taxation of the Auckland Fleet Meeting was £3908 0s lid. This sum cost nothing to collect, and it is little wonder that the authorities are in favour of additional permits—and revenue. The Greymouth Trotting Club is the latest to place a Free-for-All on its programme. The quality of horses racing on the West Coast is gradually improving, and the institution of this semiclassic will be very popular with the light-harness enthusiasts of We'stland. Oaknut, who won at the Forbury Fleet Meeting, races in the same interests as Penury Rose. He was backed soundly by his connections, but the good thing nearly came undone, as his gear broke 50 yards from the post, but he had sufficient in reserve to win.
