PARAMOUNT THEATRE.

"The Great Whit© Way," adapted from the story by H. C. Witwer to make one of the most amusing, thrilling and entertaining comedy-dramas of the season, had its initial screening at the Paramount Theatre last evening. As the name imElies, Broadway is the centre of the plot, ut thure is an added attraction in the picture in that the majority of those in the cast are not screen-players in the usual .sense,, but those who have made New York's great thoroughfare what it is to-day. Thus the audience see such folk as Florence Ziegfeld, with the entire Ziegfeld Follies chorus appearing in - a magnificent stage scene, Irvin S. Cobb, Tex Rickard, Billy De Beck, originator of "Barney Google" and "Spark P!ug," and a, host of sporting writers and cartoonists of the famous Hearst chain of papers. The story concerns Cain and Mabel, the former a prize-fighter and the later the leading lady in a Broadway musical comedy. Both need publicity in their work and their joint press-agent, a very live wire, sees that they get* it. He contrives" to keep them in the public eye by the most ingenious means, and in doing so provides most of the laughs in the film. Anita Stewart makes a convincing Mabel, and the part of Cain is ■well portrayed by Oscar Shaw.' T. Roy Barnes is the carefree press-agent, who does a good deal to make the picture worth while. In support are a Van Bibber comedy and the latest Gazette. A epecially-seleeted musical programme is rendered by the Paramount Orchestra. 1
