WHOLE STATE INVOLVED
EXECUTIVE'S ADVICE EXCEEDED. BRISBANE, 27tn August. A meeting of metropolitan railwaymen, following the lead of the northern men, decided to strike at midnight. The whole State will now be involved, unless a settlement is reached'before midnight. The northern and central railway ■workers acted against the advice of the union in striking, as the executive had asked them to wait until Cabinet met befpre taking extreme action. At Rockhampton over two thousand have been rendered idle, and many hundreds in other centres. So far the strike has not affected 'the inter-State service. The Eockhampton men, after deciding to strike,. granted permission to a number of railway workers to remain on the railwavs-in order to enable the running men to return to their home depots. The Disputes Committee passed a resolution declaring black all goods on railway property from midnight. The effect of the strike in the North will be severe. The sugar mills in the Lower Burdekin district will be compelled to cease crushing, as their storage facilities are exhausted.
