ARAWA STILL IDLE

APPARENT DEADLOCK REACHED

COMPANY TAKES NO*ACTTON.

A deadlock appears to have been reached in the case of the action taken by the overseas seamen of the ShawSavill Company's Arawa, who refused duty on account of the seamen's wage cut at Home. The Arawa waa to have sailed at daybreak yesterday, but she is still idle. There are" no indications at present of men on other ships coming out in sympathy with the Arawa's crew. Some such action, was hinted at iii the case of the Federal Steam Navigation Company's Leitrim, but inquiries this afternoon proved that no notice of such intention has yet been .given to that company,' "We are merely awaiting developments," said the assistanpsuperintendent of the Shaw-Sayill Company to a "Post" reporter this afternoon. "We do not intend taking any action it present." No steps were being taken yesterday to prosecute the Arawa's seamen, who are liable to penalty for refusing duty while signed on for the round trip. AN ANNOUNCEMENT LIKELY It is likely that an important announcement from the British shipowners will be made public to-morrow.

Difficulty in reaching definite action ni the trouble is accentuated by the factthat the headquarters of both parties are. ill England, and the matter is now out of the hands of the local shipping companies as well as of the seamen. The Arawa left her berth at the Glasgow Wharf at 2.20 this afternoon, under steam raised by the shjp's engineers, and with the assistance of the tug Terawlnti, for the stream. She will remain there to await further developments.
