NO COMMUNIST COERCION
DISTURBANCE AT STEPNEY.

(REUTERS TELEGRAM.) (Received 27th August, 1 p.m.) LONDON, 26th August. The headquarters of the Seamen's and Firemen's Union declared to-day that no ships were held up'or prevented from sailing by a Communist plot. The statement said that in consequence of what had -occurred at South African ports the union had sent a long cable message to General Hertzog, similar to its cable to Mr. Bruce, asking for protection for crews. There was a disturbance this morning outside the Stepney office of the Seamen's Union, whose officials have been threatened by Communists. Whilo agitators were addressing a crowd outside, an attempt was made to attack the building. Numerous police arrived and guarded the premises. Revolver shots were fired from the building during the uproar. The secretary of the branch was arrested.
