Sir Emslie and Lady Carr arrived from the South this morning by the ferry steamer.

Messrs. James Hogg and J. G. Patterson, of Dunedin, arrived in Wellington yesterday.

A motion of sympathy and condolence with the relatives of the late Mr. Alfred Jolly was passed at last evening's meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board.

Messrs. J. C. N. Grigg (Longbeach), J. S. Jessep (Waione), and William Perry (Masterton) were ,-eliected pwducers' representatives on the Meat Producers'- Board this morning.

Mr. W. J. Poison, president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, leaves Wellington for Auckland on Sunday to catch the Aorangi for Vancouver. He will investigate the question of agricultural, banks in a world tour of a year.

A motion recording appreciation of the- services of Mr. D. G. Clark, 0.8. E., as Commissioner of Taxes,, -was recorded by the New Zealand Society of Accountants at its annual meeting last night, the wisdom, impartiality, and courtesy with which his duties before retirement had been conducted being specially stressed.

The death occurred at his residence at Masterton on Tuesday night of Mr. William Alfred Burling, a well-known settler of the Masterton and Pongaroa districts. Deceased, who was 71 years of age, was the son of the late Mi\ Henry Burling, one of the pioneer settlers of the Pongaroa district. With his younger brother, Mr. Robert E. Burlins, in 1877, deceased acquired the Woodlands property at Poncaroa, and farmed there very successfully until a few years ago, when the partners went to live in retirement at Masterton. Mr. Burlinu is survived by a widow and six daughters.
