TILDEN'S DAVIS CUP TRIP
The great American tennis player, W. T. Tilden, in an article to the Sydney "Sun," discusses the possibilities and probabilities of the inter-zone final between Australia and Franco.; Tilden writes:—
"The inter-zone final of the Davis Cup is almost here, and it is well to consider, the logical challengers to the United States.. France, with Lacoste, Borotra, and' Bragnon, is one of the strongest combinations any country has placed in the field in recent years. One cannot doubt then: strength, remembering that for two years Lacoste and Borotra have met in the finals at Wimbledon. Last year Borotra, won the English title after defeating Richards in the semi-final round, but this year it was Lacoste who won after his crushing defeat of Anderson in- the semi-finals. Lacoste was a great player last year, as was proved by his wins from Patterson, ' O'Hara Wood, and_ Norton, but everyone who has seen him play this year agrees that with his added speed and experience he is now in the first flight of the world. If that is so, Lacoste should score two victories for France in the inter-zone final round against the winners of the American zone.
"Borotra is still the 'bounding Basque' of last year, possibly a little more convincing in his ground game, and still the same sensational volleyer. Frankly, I am of opinion that Anderson and Alonzo are too strong from the baseline for Borotra, and Patterson, with his crushing service and net attack, might possibly forco him away from tho barrier, so that ho would meet defeat.
"Personally, I heliVvo Brugnon -and Bnrotra at. 'their, best are tho bast French doubles, but probably Lacosto and Borotra will lio uswl. I cannot sco much hope for Franco in the doubles if Australia comes through the American zone, but I believe that Lacosto arid Borotra have an excellent chance to win three out of tho four singles."
L'Yiinee, which has already won tho European zone cnnji'st, 1 will meet Australia on Ith, Dili, and 7th September fur tlm I'iclil lv cliulkmgo Aniui'Ka for U)c Umvjs L'ujj,
