(Received 27th August, 10.30 a.m.)
LONDON, 26th August.
Piquant correspondence k published in the "Morning Post" between Mr. Cook, the iriinere' leader, and Mr. G. A. Spencer, M.P., the leader of the Nottinghamshire miners. Mr. Cook writes that, regretting that Mr. Spencer has been denied the opportunity of personally attacking him, the Miners' Conference invites Mr. Spencer to do so at Labour meetings in Mansfield,, which Mr.. Cook is to address on Sunday. • Mi. Spencer, in reply, cays j "Your invitation' shows how utterly unfit you are to lead a great federation. Your first consideration is not the members but the gratification of your own- ambitious egotism. Many of our best trade unionists are disgusted with some of your teachings. Your revolutionary utterances make for, neither unity nor success. I will have nothing to do with leading men in open revolution which will only lead to defeat and disaster."
