HUTT VALLEY CHORAL SOCIETY.
The Hutt Valley Choral Society gave its eighth concert to a somewhat small but very, appreciative audience in the Town Hall at Lower Hutt last evening. Perhaps one noticeable feature was a weakness of numbers in the tenor department, and the secretary statea that he would he glad if men of the Valley would give their assistance to improve'the society from this point of view. In the first part of the programme, the society gave two part songs, "The Sea Hath Its Pearls" (Pinsuti) and "My Bonnie Lass She Smileth" (German), which were well received. Miss Ava Symons, in her violin soli, "Variations of a Theme by Corelli," arranged by Tartini Kreisler, and 'Legende" (Wieniaweki), was specially favoured by the audience, and was asked to respond, which she did, giving Canzonetta (d'Aubrosio) and "The Bee" (Schubert). Mrs. E. T. Spidy gave a splendid rendering of German's "Who'll Buy My Lavender?" and responded ■with "Good Morning, Brother Sunshine" (Liza Lehmann). Mr. Len Barnes was heard to great advantage in his two soli, "At Night" (Rachmaniov) and the rousing ''Sword Song" (Elgar). Mr. Barnes's accompanist was Miss Gwen Wing. The second part of the programme was taken up with excellent renderings of selections from Handel's "Judas Maccabeus," the individual parts of which were taken by Mesdames K. T. Spidy and H. E. Leighton, Miss J. Knight, and Mr. Len Barnes, tho pianists being Mrs. S. M.. Hobbs and Mr- R. IToman. Tho conduotoTship was in'the very capable hands of Mr. Robert Parker, '.[Tie society's nest ooacort vjU b| hsiija. Kov.uabp^ .
